The Ocean Ambassador Programme links KPMG’s ‘10by30’ educational goal with the

theme of ocean conservation. Together with our partner, sailor Boris Herrmann, and his Malizia team, we inspire schoolchildren to protect the oceans and raise their awareness of climate action.

As Ocean Ambassadors, KPMG employees deliver a lesson at local schools that combines scientific facts on ocean conservation with the adventures of the Malizia sailing team, and encourage teachers to participate in the long-term My Ocean Challenge – Team Malizia’s educational programme – and to integrate the topic into their lessons. In this way, we actively contribute to sustainability education.

Despite growing turnover, larger office spaces and a larger workforce, we have succeeded in reducing our total emissions in absolute terms: in the 2025 financial year, we reduced our greenhouse gas emissions by around 26 per cent compared with the base year of 2019. There has also been a clear improvement of around 8 per cent compared with 2024. The progress is particularly evident in terms of emissions intensity: per employee, we have recorded a reduction of around 39 per cent since 2019, and around 10 per cent in the last year alone. *

These results are the outcome of systematic climate management. We report our greenhouse gas emissions in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol across Scopes 1, 2 and 3 – including material Scope 3 categories such as purchased services and commuter travel. Our targets are based on the SBTi criteria.

In Brazil’s Cerrado, KPMG is partnering with the WWF to support a nature conservation project focused on restoring one of the world’s most biodiverse savannah landscapes. In degraded areas, ecosystems are being revitalised to improve water quality and availability, safeguard habitats for endangered species, and sequester CO₂ in the long term.

Through reforestation, the conservation of natural areas and close collaboration with local and indigenous communities, the project helps to sustainably strengthen the ecological functions of this valuable natural area.

Mit Unganisha fördert KPMG ein WWF‑Projekt, das darauf abzielt, bestehende Schutzgebiete in Ostafrika besser miteinander zu verbinden. Durch die Vernetzung der Landschaften Mara‑Serengeti, Amboseli‑Kilimanjaro und Tsavo‑Mkomazi entsteht ein großflächiges Schutzgebietsnetzwerk, das Wanderkorridore erhält, Artenvielfalt schützt und ökologische Resilienz stärkt.

Das Projekt bringt Naturschutzexpert:innen, Regierungen sowie lokale und indigene Gemeinden zusammen und unterstützt so den langfristigen Schutz der Natur und die Stärkung regionaler Lebensgrundlagen.

Preparing young people for the digital future is a key part of our social commitment. Through two international initiatives – Global Cyber Day and the AI Education Programme – we are strengthening digital skills and promoting a responsible approach to cyber security and artificial intelligence.

Both programmes are aimed at pupils, teachers and parents, and provide practical knowledge about the opportunities and risks of the digital world. Through educational videos, webinars and teaching materials, we provide age-appropriate access to topics such as data protection, social media, online gaming and AI applications in everyday life. In addition, the AI Education Programme brings fundamental AI knowledge directly into the classroom: our employees show pupils from Year 7 onwards how AI works and where it can be used responsibly.

Our energy management system is certified to DIN EN ISO 50001:2018. **

The focus is on structured consumption analyses, the identification of relevant energy flows and efficiency measures based on these. In addition, we use LED lighting and minimise the downtime of technical equipment. KPMG sites with particularly high energy consumption – those accounting for at least 2.5 per cent of total consumption – benefit from targeted optimisations such as smart building technology, efficient lighting or reduced idle times for technical equipment.
